Digital Tracing Tools for Artists
Wonderful App!! ❤️
This app is AMAZING!! I absolutely love it! Let me start out by saying I do NOT pay for apps…EVER! For me, it has to be exceptional for me to even want to. But after seeing it on FB I knew this was one I had to have. For me, the hardest part of any drawing is getting my dimensions and proportions right. Once I have that down, I can shade a picture in record time. But I can spend hours just trying to get proportions down. With this app I can sketch out the proportions in record time, leaving me plenty of time to shade the way I want…game changer! Not only that, I can free hand a picture and then use the Da Vinci Eye to check the proportions and see how accurate I am. I’ve only had this app for a couple of days…and I haven’t even scratched the surface of what it can do…but I can already tell I’m going to use it A LOT! Thank you…great job!!
Perfect for seasoned artists and non artists alike
This app is the most versatile tool I’ve ever used for creating stunning artwork. The features are well thought out and designed for real life application by an experienced artist. Whether you just need to get proportion correct on a portrait or get precise detail in an architectural rendering, this app is the best, hands down. It is elegantly intuitive and will deliver beautiful results on first use no matter what your level of skill. The small investment you make here will continue to pay big dividends toward the quality of your creations. As an additional benefit the support provided by the developer is first rate.
Don’t hesitate! You will not regret purchasing this app!
Love Da Vinci Eye!
This is definitely my favorite app! I’ve had so much fun with it and areas of my art have vastly improved. I now get drawings with tricky compositions right on my first try. It’s especially helpful when drawing animals and people—getting them properly proportioned, with eyes exactly where they belong, and getting the shading just right. The breakdown mode for shading is fantastic, and the strobe feature is also extremely helpful. Any problems I’ve had have received clear and friendly help—and incredibly fast. A tutorial will be made addressing an issue I’ve had, so user needs receive very focused attention and are even welcomed. Da Vinci Eye was a gift, and I was amazed to find out how little it costs. I would gladly have paid several times over its price tag. There’s so much more to this app than I expected, and I’m looking forward to whatever enhancements may be in its future. I truly believe this is an essential tool for artists of all levels!
I have been using DVE for about 6 months. I have found it easy to use and very useful for the freehand drawing-challenged like myself. I originally tried to use a prism/mirror based system but had problems seeing the superimposed image clearly. The computer-based system it is much easier. I can choose a picture to project onto a canvas or sheet of paper, pick the size of the desired finished product, and scale the superimposed image as desired. Once set I can blow the superimposed scene up to draw in details without changing the overall image. One can also utilize the various tools to enhance a particular feature. The strobe feature is great for a final check to make sure you have captured the relevant lines. One can also use another picture to superimpose on a given drawing to add a second image. I find it intuitive to operate and very useful.

To be completely honest I had very little hope for this and had decided I was not going to get my hopes up when it came to functionality. I figured I had another run of the mill tracing app that I’ve encountered numerous times. Boy was I wrong! This little app is powerful, packing a huge punch in functionality and user ability. It works surprisingly well and there is more you can use it for that just tracing. This app has helped me take my art to the next level by helping me practice and learn how to draw certain things. Being a self taught artist is not easy, but this app is definitely a great tool. Try it out and if all else fails and it’s not for you, no harm right?… but I highly doubt it will let you down.

- CAN’T THINK OF WHAT TO DRAW?
Check out our inspiration section for user uploaded reference photos. If you have a great pic, you can even upload your own content for other artists to draw.
- LEARNING HOW TO DRAW?
We have lessons using our unique patent-pending learning method. You can also turn ANY photo into a step by step shading drawing lesson.
- HOW DOES IT WORK?
Based on a tool that has been used by artists for centuries, this app is a digital version of a Camera Lucida.
You suspend your iPhone or iPad above or in front of your canvas with a stand, tall glass, or other objects easily found around your house.
When you look through your phone, you will see both the image and the canvas simultaneously. It’s similar in functionality to an art projector or light box, but with the ability to do so much more.
You can draw on any surface, zoom in to draw micro details in your drawing, and you don’t have to draw in the dark.
- WILL THIS HELP ME LEARN HOW TO DRAW?
Using Da Vinci Eye, you will be training your eye to recognize proportions and draw with shading while training your hand to translate precise lines and strokes on paper. You’ll learn faster and more efficiently using our proven techniques compared to any other app.
*AR MODE REQUIREMENTS*
To use AR mode, you must have an A10x or A11 processor and above. We recommend using:
– iPhone 8 and newer (iPhone 7 and below will not work)
– iPad Mini 5th Generation and newer
– iPad Air 2019 and newer
– iPad Pro 3rd Gen (Any pro made after 2018) and newer
AR & CLASSIC MODE:
AR mode anchors your image to an object in the real world. This lets you move your canvas or phone, and the drawing and projected image will stay aligned.
Classic mode is like a normal art projector, where if you move your phone or canvas, the drawing will no longer be aligned.
AR mode is especially useful for drawing or painting on an easel. However, in most cases, Classic mode will achieve the same result.
